At Abide Counseling, you can expect the skills, training, and experience needed to help you on your journey to healing.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT empowers clients to manage their problems by adapting how they think and behave. Clients will have the opportunity to explore their thoughts regarding life’s stressors and to recognize how these perceptions impact their feelings, behaviors, and overall quality of life. Skills are learned to challenge these unhelpful thought patterns, resulting in a more adaptive way of addressing one’s feelings. This treatment style is often used to treat Anxiety, Depression, and OCD.

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is used to process traumatic memories and heal from other distressing experiences. EMDR involves the client focusing on the traumatic memory while experiencing bilateral stimulation, implemented through eye movements, audial tones, or hand-held tappers. This method of therapy allows the client to process the traumatic material while in their present reality of safety. The goal of EMDR is to help the brain recognize that an event has passed, rather than still happening in the present.
Trauma-Informed Counseling
Trauma-informed therapy is a therapeutic approach that is sensitive to the impact trauma has on an individual’s life and provides the necessary skills and resources a trauma survivor needs to cope with continued life stressors. Creating a safe environment is key, where individuals can grow in awareness of their triggers, learn self-regulation skills to effectively respond, and feel competent to create spaces and interpersonal connections for themselves that foster safety and promote growth.

Play Therapy
Play therapy is a therapeutic strategy using observable play to help individuals express themselves and resolve their problems. This method is used to treat mental health conditions and behavioral disorders in both children and adults. In addition to toys or manipulatives, sand tray and art therapy modalities are commonly utilized in sessions. Play often facilitates a needed safe distancing from problems and naturally creates an avenue for developmentally appropriate expression of one’s innermost thoughts and feelings.
